Discover the most beautiful beaches
Beaches on Elba Island are all different from one another and they are able to satisfy everyone’s tastes. Long strips of fine golden sand are alternated with pebble beaches, imposing cliffs and lonely coves hidden by the Mediterranean scrub. We show you some of them, in a short panoramic tour, as if it were a welcome drink for your holiday at Hotel Airone.
La Padulella: the bright Dover of the Tyrrhenian Sea
It is an arch of beach, of white gravel, dominated by an immaculate wall that rises, majestic and very steep; a white cliff that recalls the white cliffs of Dover. Exposed to the north-east, it can be easily reached from Capo Bianco car park, through a narrow but easily passable path, bordered by stone walls and fragrant hedges or through a path, more difficult and steep, but which reflects the spirit of this island: elba is poignant, intimate and harsh at the same time.
Capo Bianco: dazzling splendor
The white gravel mixed with sand and the cliff behind it, reflect the light of the day creating a play of transparencies. More than 400 meters long, it is divided into two parts and it is almost impossible to reach the second stretch without getting a little wet: sometimes only the feet, sometimes more, according to the play of the tides. It will be ideal for your children who can experience the adventure of reaching the secret coast of the pirates, on the other side of the rocks, but in complete safety.
Well signposted along the road that leads to Enfola, to reach it there is a detour to the right and, from the parking lot, a few steps and you will have arrived.
Capo Sant’Andrea: the wild cliff and marine life
The huge flat and smooth granite rocks, the seabed that is immediately deep, an active underwater life and the emerald green color of the water: this is the corner dedicated to those who love the sea and its creatures. After a sunbath, a long swim in the clear waters will help you discover why Elba is synonymous with biodiversity.
Cavoli: the beach for every season
The curious name of this beach does not derive from the vegetables, but from the “cavili”, squared granite blocks which, once upon a time, were extracted in the area. Among the best known and appreciated beaches of the island, facing South-West, it combines a long sandy stretch with the presence of large rocks. Its sheltered position allows pleasant baths in its crystal clear waters even out of season. It can be reached easily, with an asphalted road that leads to the parking lot. A word of advice: Elba, at times, must also be synonymous with early risers. In Cavoli you have to go early in the morning if you want to find the best location to enjoy its beauty.
Fetovaia: sand and relaxation
The beach par excellence: the sandy bottom and the fact that it is completely sheltered from the tip of Fetovaia and, therefore, protected from waves and wind make it suitable for those who like to relax under an umbrella, with a good book. Younger children can have fun making sand castles: they will meet the adventure in some other coves. Reaching it, it is also very simple. It is right along the main street and, for this reason, often crowded. On the other hand, those who love to relax, enjoying all the comforts and services, can pay a small pledge.
La Biodola: quiet fun
Located inside the gulf of the same name, it is formed by a long strip of fine and clear sand. It stands out for the great abundance of offers: courses, excursions, rental of any type of boat. It is recommended for families and anyone who wants quiet entertainment close at hand.
Laconella: the roar of thunder
Secluded, with a shallow sandy bottom, it is exposed to the south winds but well sheltered by Punta della Contessa rock, in the final part of the wide gulf of Lacona. It is therefore suitable for families with children. Like every stretch of the Elban coast, Laconella also has its own story to tell: a natural cavity in the rock that divides it from the Ghiaieto receives and welcomes the waves, causing a characteristic roar of thunder during storm surges.
Norsi: dark and adventurous
In the Stella Gulf, exposed to the hot winds of the South, it has a dark gravel bottom. Relatively hidden, it is a great compromise between solitude and comfort. The rocks that surround it are full of caves and ravines to visit by canoe or with a diving mask. Children will appreciate the encounters with crabs and older children will live the dreams of adolescence reflected in the timeless panorama of the island of Montecristo, visible on clear days.
Felciaio: a natural swimming pool
It is a good alternative to lido di Capoliveri, larger and more crowded, not far away. It is divided into two parts by the remains of a port and, from the central rocks 4 or 5 meters high, it is possible to dive into the small inland sea, deep enough to allow it. To the right and to the left there are small gravel coves, reachable by overcoming some rocks or with a few strokes. It can only be reached on foot, through 300 meters path immersed in the Mediterranean scrub.
Calanova: shadow and transparency
Also a good compromise between solitude and services, it is covered with medium-sized gravel, but smooth and comfortable. The small rocky promontories on the sides protect it from the currents coming from the North and the East. Pleasant, also for the beautiful pine forest of maritime pines and cork trees that reach the sea, it is a good point to make a base for yachting, with its small, but equipped, pier.
